Life Vanguards, a frontline non-governmental organisation presents its 8th Annual Youth Leadership Development Workshop
Theme: Effective Youth Leadership for Positive and Sustainable Community Participation
The youth leadership development training is an annual event that brings together current and budding youth leaders from various institutions of higher learning and the wider society.
Workshop objectives
To build the capacity of participants for active and meaningful participation in community development
To inculcate leadership skills in youths and prepare them for leadership positions
To harness youth potentials for sustainable community and national development
To help participants develop plans for action in their communities
To enlighten participants on lobbying, advocacy and communication as indispensable tools for good leadership
To promote gender equity, youth-youth and youth-adult partnership in community development
Eligibility
Students of higher institutions within the country as well as current and emerging youth leaders are qualified to apply as participants. Thirty (30) participants would be selected on the basis of the quality of their applications. Priority would be given to the first 30 quality applications we receive. Every endeavour would be made to ensure gender balance in participant selection.
Cost:
A subsidized fee of 5,000 Naira is charged per participant to cover the costs of feeding, accommodation and workshop materials for the one-week duration of the workshop.
Scholarships
A sum total of five full and partial scholarships (waivers) are available to cover workshop fees. The scholarships would be made available to qualified participants who otherwise may be unable to pay the workshop fees. Scholarship applications should be directed to the workshop coordinator at livascholarship@yahoo.com with detailed information on why you should be given a scholarship and the amount of waiver required. Deadline for scholarship application is 24th December 2004.
Workshop Activities
Participants at the training would be taken through the rudiments of Personal Management and Leadership Skills, Gender and Community Development, Advocacy, Communication and Group Leadership skills, Civic Activism, Participatory Learning and Action Strategies, Network and Partnership building and Evaluation and Impact Assessment. Facilitators are drawn from civil society and the relevant professions.
The workshop activities would also include a field trip, social activities and communiqué presentation.
Workshop participants would be provided with training materials, training manuals and a certificate of participation at the end of the training.
