BACKGROUND

The transportation system is a common element of economies in all the countries, most basic transportation related issues are similar everywhere. It becomes clear that there has been increased demand for sustainable mobility with enhanced safety, efficiency, reliability, equity, and environmental friendliness of the transport sector in recent years. are the . Information & Communication Technology (ICT) can help societies achieve some of these goals.

With this in mind, NetPEM (Network for Prevenetive Environmnetal Management, Nagpur), VITO (Vlaamse Instelling voor Technnologisch Onderzok, Belgium), UNIUD (Universita degli studi di Udine, Italy) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), India announce the 2005 ICT Application For Sustainable Mobility Workshop.

AIM
The Workshop aims at discussing solutions to the adverse impacts related to urban traffic such as congestion, emissions fuel (in)efficiency and (loss of) travel time. The event will also focus on exploring the use of ICT application in resolving the situation in the Cities and facilitate the planning of a sustainable mobility system for the cities managers and owners of fleet. Some of the experiences from the European and Indian cities will be shared and the applications in most mega cities will be discussed. The ICT applications can provides information and tools for helping fleet managers and city planners to maximise transport management and hence to minimise fuel consumption and reduce environmental pollution through optimisation of transport routing techniques and automatic detection of traffic jam situations. ICT application can also facilitate in other areas such as logistic planning and communication of accident & safety incidents to control station.

OBJECTIVE
·Awareness creation and dissemination of information on latest developments of ICT application and illustrate their application in developing countries transport management
·Bringing together the Research Institutions, Industry, Government, Specialists, and Technology providers.
·Sharing of Project experiences
·Develop partnerships among governments, industries and communities; connect local and regional professionals and institutions worldwide with related initiatives and networks
·Inform local and regional professionals on the ICT–enabled transportation infrastructure.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Researchers, stakeholders, policy makers and decision makers working in the field of information technology, automobile sector with an interest in transport systems, both from a scientific and management perspective, are encouraged to apply. We are interested in professionals who have conducted studies, or have otherwise been involved in an activity that deals with the workshop themes from a local, regional or international perspective.

Participants will be responsible for their own travel arrangements, such as, air travel, visa and so on. But we are making efforts to ensure funding to reimburse the travel costs of some selected delegates.
