When we first thought of organizing an ICT Forum meant for Arab youth, our main target was to create a suitable atmosphere to inspire and educate youth on the role of technology in their lives at present and in the future, since ICT can provide an unprecedented opportunity for youth to meet vital goals such as unemployment, health care and education.
Nevertheless, with a deeper look, convening a forum for youth in the traditional way of having them seated to listen to some professionals talking terms and slogans that they wouldn’t probably believe or take it for real seemed not to be our utmost end. We needed more interaction; as a matter of fact, as much as we were aiming to inspire and educate youth on ICT, we also wanted them to inspire and educate themselves, the elders, the professionals and voice their dreams, visions and views out to those who do not believe in them.
The image of the Arab youth is as distorted as that of the whole Arab World in general. And this cannot linger forever. Youth is the hope for any nation; and ours doesn’t lack the capabilities or the competences as the others, the rest of the world that is, tends to see them. It’s only the Wheres, the Hows and the Whens that our youth need! In other words, it’s the OPPORTUNITIES! Therefore; the Arab Youth Forum was and still does mean to be the opportunity we provide for all the young people to talk with each other and with the rest of the world, show their ideas and minds, and prove how they understand the vital role of ICT in our societies today and the years to come.
Since Youth are the early adaptors of technology, Cairo ICT has decided to utilize its expertise to reach out and provide information technology training, support and leadership, by embracing the Arab Youth Forum. We mean to go through youth issues and concerns within the community from a political, social, technological, and cultural perspectives. Through technology youth can find out which place, entity or company is serving them and other programs and bodies, which can provide expanded opportunities for them. |
