| The United World Colleges Netherlands will hold an international youth conference called the United World Colleges Youth Action Summit 2002. The summit will focus primarily on environmental issues and sustainable development. Nevertheless, we do acknowledge that environmental issues and sustainable development are inextricably tied to an entire set of other issues, and thus cannot be adequately addressed without paying attention to those. The summit will provide one of the last instances prior to the World Summit on Sustainable Development to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2002, for young people from around the world to meet, discuss these issues and directly contribute to shaping of the world's envionmental and development agenda. The UWCYAS 2002 is applying for accreditation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development in order to be able to provide an opportunity for several UWCYAS 2002 delegates to have the privilege to travel to South Africa and present the concrete outcomes of the UWCYAS 2002. |
