Following the World Conference on Racism held in Durban, South Africa, a group of young people are planning followup throughout the Asian region.
Around 12 representatives from Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Bhutan, Iran, India, Nepal, Azerbaijan, Israel, Palestine and Australia will convene in February 2002 at The World Youth Foundation in Melaka, Malaysia.
The meeting is arranged to organize a regional youth summit to be held around July this year. Each of these interim representatives for the network were selected based on a selection process which closed in October 2001 - some were selected based on recommendations, some were at the WCAR and agreed to act as interim representative, some were nominated from colleagues etc. They have agreed to fund their trip to attend the meeting to help organize the regional youth summit.
We are asking for everyone's opinion on how you want to shape the regional summit as a follow up to the WCAR? A main focus would also be what you want out of the network we are developing and how it can assist you in the work that you do.
We will also use the regional summit to prepare youths to intervene on similar processes beyond the actual summit such as the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development in August/September in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Please upload your comments on the discussion section of the website and we will try our best to incorporate your recommendations. |
