“2ND. YOUTH FORUM ON DEVELOPMENT:
COOPERATION BETWEEN EUROPE AND LATIN AMERICA”
European Club – Youth Commission
September 21 and 22, 2005
Buenos Aires, Argentina
PRESENTATION
The objective of the “SECOND YOUTH FORUM ON DEVELOPMENT: COOPERATION BETWEEN EUROPE AND LATIN AMERICA” is to discuss the protagonist role of youth in development, and their significant aptitude to work within networks. This meeting wants to give continuity to the First Youth Forum on Politics, which showed different ways of political participation for young people.
Latin America faces a great challenge in order to reach Millennium Development Goals, settled in 2000 by the UN and related to human development. We consider essential to rescue youth’s potential in the design of initiatives and the implementation of development programs. The concept of youth identity as a factor of unity for the regional social construction, the evolution of the concept in the globalization’s process, have made us evaluate youth’s communicational and network tools.
The UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, refers to youth in the following words: "... they are the hopes, energies and aspirations of youth, its enthusiasm and will to experiment, which moves forwards to a society... ".
A systemic vision of youth and human development let us explore the dynamic in youth’s response to the world-wide tendencies, and how strong is this aptitude/answer. That is what we want evaluate in this Second Youth Forum on Development.
Our proposal is looking to share different experiences and showcase several ways of participation that are helpful in integration’s process, improving the promotion of social, political and cultural interaction between nations.
