The first Alexandria International Model United Nations (AIMUN) is taking place from the 7th to the 10th of August, 2005, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in Alexandria, Egypt. AIMUN is the first UN simulation to be held in Alexandria. The model is a student-to-student activity run by the youth members of an Egyptian non-governmental organization, Sustainable Development Association (SDA). This year’s conference is focusing on the theme of “Re-evaluation of the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region performance towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals”, with sub-themes on “Political Participation” and “Good Governance”. The chosen delegates trained for the month of July on the Model’s themes, learning how to debate and negotiate, and finally putting together an action plan for the MENA countries to achieve the MDGs.
The goals set for the models are as follow:
1- Introducing Alexandrian students to the experience of UN model.
2- Raising youth awareness about development issues as well as the UN Millennium Declaration as well as the Millennium Development Goals.
3- Assisting youth to develop their communication, negotiations and presentation skills.
This conference is in parntership with TakingITGlobal, Russian Culture center and Dialouge of Arab Reform |
