DetailsAbout
Twenty-five years after the 1981 event, parliamentarians from all parties will be invited to meet in the same place on the same day as the 1981 women’s constitutional conference, to welcome the women activists, academics, media, and retired parliamentarians who changed the course of Canadian constitutional history. There will also be generations of students from across the country, to participate in a morning of celebratory retrospection and an afternoon of forward-looking analysis and forward-looking strategies - at the national and international levels.

This Forum is being organized by original “Ad Hockers” from 25 years ago in partnership with a diverse range of volunteers, including a national youth committee; Equal Voice; Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario; Taking IT Global; Power Camp; FAFIA (Feminist Alliance for International Action); The Afghan Women’s Organization, and the Youth Action Network -- with the support of Status of Women Canada, the International Development and Research Council, Justice Canada, the Law Commission of Canada and private donors - to bring together activists, academics, media, parliamentarians and students, in celebratory retrospection of women’s activism in Canadian constitution-building, to produce forward-looking analysis and strategies in a global context - bringing together diverse intergenerational perspectives on Canadian experiences for more than two decades with those of two generations of women leaders such as Dr. Sima Samar from Afghanistan, Mary Balikungeri of Rwanda and Lerato Legoabe of South Africa.

The forum will run for two full days, opening on the evening of February 13th, with a screening of “Water” introduced by its director Deepa Mehta and her daughter/author, Devyani Saltzman. On the evening of February 14th, join us for the volunteer production of “The Vagina Monologues” featuring some surprise performances by well-known Canadian feminists. The second day - February 15th - is organized by Equal Voice and the Ad Hoc Youth Committee, dedicated to developing intergenerational strategies on women’s and girls’ political participation and “lived rights”

BRING YOUR ENERGY AND PASSION FOR WOMEN’S EQUALITY TO THIS FORUM!

Some participation subsidies are available but you must apply for them BY JANUARY 17th.

NO CONFERENCE FEE! REGISTRATION CLOSES JANUARY 31st SO PLEASE ACT NOW.
