AfriGrowth Foundation – Youth Mentoring Programme - 2006

It is our pleasure to announce that AfriGrowth Foundation is currently receiving applications for its Youth Mentoring Programme for the term starting in April 2006. This programme seeks to recruit young people –Fresh Graduates and Serving Youth Corpers to participate in the AfriGrowth Foundation’s Youth Mentoring programme.
Background
The Mentoring programme is scheduled as follows: an initial 3 weeks of formal mentoring by well respected individuals in the society who have made landmarks within their various fields, upon completion of the 3 weeks programme participants write a report of their activities and submit to the AfriGrowth Foundation’s office.
This programme is designed to give youths in Nigeria opportunities at appropriate levels of the society to learn from successful Nigerians who are not only icons in their field but got there through sheer hard work; to help build the capacity of young people; and to prepare them for the future.
The Youth Mentoring programme will run in both Abuja and Lagos. A significant part of the mentoring programme concerns shadowing their mentors and learning from them skills necessary for development.
Further, mentees will:
• attend and participate in a workshop.
• write a final report to AfriGrowth Foundation on their activities.
• interact with the AfriGrowth Foundation office at least once a week during the mentoring programme.
• develop a relationship with the AfriGrowth Foundation Office and provide updates on their activities during the youth mentoring programme
In addition to development opportunities to experience working with successful Nigerians such as Prof. Pat Utomi, Mr. Tony Elumelu, Ambassador S. Olusola, Dr. Imo Itsueli, Mr. Sony Irabor, Ambbassador Joe Keshi, Dr. Reuben Abati etc, all qualified candidates will be provided the following benefits:
• Cost of travel from and back to the mentors office
• Administrative assistance as required on a daily basis
Criteria
Candidates must be a fresh graduate or a serving youth corper, resident in Lagos or Abuja and must be ready to:
• work in line with the missions and visions of AfriGrowth
• Commit to one month mentoring programme
• Commit to at least one contact per day with their mentor.
• Commit to the mentoring programmes guidelines.
• Respond to an evaluation of the program
The criteria for selection of candidates include:
• Youth who are fresh graduate or serving Youth Corpers
• Applicants should currently be residing in Lagos or Abuja (Applicants residing outside Lagos and Abuja will not be considered for this programme, but could apply for AfriGrowths Mentoring Programme when launched in their states)
• Established interest and dedication to self development
• Basic understanding of issues of importance to self and future projections
• Commitment to build on things learnt and interest too mentor other young people
Instructions for Submitting Application
Applicants should send their Completed Applications and Essay in one email attachment, Due to the large volume of applicants, applications that do not follow these specifications will not be considered.
Referees are to write a separate email on the applicant stating why the applicant should be admitted into the AfriGrowth Foundation Youth Mentoring programme. Emails should include Applicants name as the subject line.

The screening of candidates will include various stages. Kindly note that AfriGrowth will not respond to any queries on the status of applications, as only top-ranking short-listed candidates will be notified.
Deadline for receipt of applications is March 14, 2006.
No applications will be accepted after the deadline has passed.
