INCLUDE YOUNG PEOPLE!
Why? The Declaration of Commitment recognizes the specific vulnerability of young people to HIV and AIDS. Half of all new HIV infections occur in youth ages 15 through 24. To halt and begin to reverse the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, young people must be involved!
When? Two days prior to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS +5 meeting, youth from around the world will convene in New York City to guarantee that their voices are heard and to ensure that the outcome of UNGASS +5 addresses the needs of youth.
What? Day One of the Youth Summit will be filled with comprehensive education and skills-building training on advocacy, media and on the UNGASS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the UN process.
On Day Two, through an interactive and focused dialogue, youth participants will develop and discuss youth demands at UNGASS to ensure a youth voice on HIV/AIDS is heard.
Cost? Participants must cover their own travel and per diem to attend the Youth Summit. There is no charge for being a participant in the Youth Summit itself.
The Youth Summit is now closed. For more information please visit http://www.youthaidscoalition.org/activities.html.
The event will be sponsored by Advocates for Youth, the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS and UNFPA.
