Goshi Lake is located in one of the forests in the south-eastern border of National Park “Dilijan”. The lake is located in the middle forest area on 1100-1600 meters high. The region has very rich biodiversity, which includes many types of mammals and birds.
All species of flora and fauna of the region were highly damaged during last years. Especially it concerns to water birds of the Goshi Lake. There were living little technybabtus ruficollis, black Fulica Atra, Blue Alkedo Atthis, Galinula Chloropus, some kinds of Rallus Aguaticuses, white Ardea Alba (International Red book), during bird migration are visible also little groups of Grus grus (Armenian red book), Marmoronetta Augustirostris (International Red book). Nowadays a great part of all above mentioned types of birds, except Podiceps Cristatus disappeared.
Also leeches living here were disappeared. We connect this with the introduction of some fish and crayfish into the lake. There is an idea that the ceratophylum demersum (some kind of water plant), which is covered almost half of the Lake, also encourages Lake’s destruction.
For restoration of the lake’s ecosystem we are going to make the following activities:
- Restore the population of leeches in the Lake,
- Return the water birds into their native places,
- Organize seminar-discussion about the Lake’s problem,
- Make biological and physical-chemical analysis of the Lake,
- Organize eco camp with the purpose to mention the Lake’s problem and make clean up activities there etc.
