The 2nd annual Y Fest, a rally/festival celebrating the power Bay Area youth have to make a difference in local, national and global issues will be held on May 13, 2006 from noon-5:00 at Justin Herman Plaza. Co-presented by the San Francisco Youth Commission and Youth Philanthropy Worldwide, the day will feature free music, spoken word, art, and speeches, celebrating the fact that young people are not the problem, but instead a critical part of the solution to challenges faced by our community and world. All performers are local youth!
“Youth-led change is happening at all levels—local, national and global. Y Fest will encourage more youth to get involved to make their community, city, nation and the world a better place,” commented Iqra Anjum, Chair of the San Francisco Youth Commission.
The inaugural Y Fest – named for both Generation Y and Youth - took place on May 14, 2005, and brought together over 1,500 people in San Francisco Civic Center Plaza. This year’s event promises to draw an even larger crowd to celebrate all that local youth are doing to effect change in their communities and the world and to inspire more youth to get involved. There will be booths with food, information on organizations that work with young people or want to empower their programs with youth, and youth-made goods including CDs, t-shirts and food.
