Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
Some of the questions that this Open Forum seeks to address are:
- What does it mean to be a youth in the Middle East, given our contemporary context?
- More specifically, what does it mean to be a TIG youth member in the Middle East?
- What role does Egypt (or Egyptian youth) have to play in increasing the interconnectivity among youth in the Middle East? How can this be achieved?
- What would you like to see happen in your community? in the world? in the region? How can this be achieved?
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
There seems to be a strong desire to create a "Middle Eastern youth voice", one that can speak to the rest of the world about various issues. However, to create such a voice, an open dialogue is needed to first address the demands and needs of youth in the region, especially since youth participation and involvement is growing in the region.
The setting is ideal as it corresponds with the "Beacon for Freedom" conference that is taking place at the Bibliotheca (see www.beaconforfreedom.org).
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
- Members will have the opportunity to get to know a person at TIG that they can contact directly for questions, concerns, ideas, etc.
- Create new and foster old connections among TIG members in Egypt, and elsewhere in the Middle East.
- Address the specific issues mentioned above. |
