Name of the Open Forum: The Role of Community Policing in Peacebuilding and Security Promotion by Youth
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
Comunity policing as an alternative system
>Insecurity as a social problem, stakeholder involvement and government involvement in curbing insecurity.
>The role of the youth in promoting insecurity.
>Existing community efforts and initiatives.
>Relationship between drug abuse and insecuity, with specific case studies from young people.
>Strategies on ways can address insecuity, and agree on a way forward.
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
Insecurity is growing instantly in most parts of Mombasa and those who are often involved are young people. Our police and secuity officials have been so reluctant in addressing this issue. Members of the community feel that there is a need to do something by introducing the concept of "community policing" where youth can take a leading role.
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
>At the end of the meeting young people and the community will have an alternative way of addressing this issue of insecurity rather than depending on the kenya police.
>Also, youth involved in insecurity, as well as processes facilitating thier social inclusion and role as citizens will be identified.
>Youth action groups will come up with a strong network of community policing under the umbrella of the youth agenda for peace and development -mombasa-kenya.
