Name of the Open Forum: Youth projects in the MDGs
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
• The participants will learn about the UN millennium initiative and the 8 development goals.
• The participants will discuss the relevance of the Goals to Russia and decide on the most crucial development issues as of the present.
• The participants will brainstorm on the possible solutions to the issues that they as active young Russian citizens can implement to achieve the Goals at the national and local levels.
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
This open forum will be held as a part of the Third national conference on volunteering, which will gather more than 250 active youth from all around Russia. These young people possess vast experience of working on social projects, including the ones directly related to the MDG initiative. Empowering them with the knowledge about the global effort to reduce poverty and maintain sustainable living in the world may result in new prospective ideas for mutual youth projects and contribute to the growth of us, the young people, as active citizens of our communities.
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding
this Open Forum for youth in the community:
The main goal of this open forum is creating a safe and fertile environment for young people from different regions of Russia to make connections and solicit ideas for new projects that they can implement together. I hope to achieve this result by providing a global perspective on youth work around one specific initiative. Many of these young people have worked on projects aimed at reducing poverty, promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and sustainable living for all, but not all of them have worked at an international level and may not be a aware of a bigger process going on in the same sphere their work in.
