Name of the Open Forum: United Nations Day Youth Forum
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
The 2005 United Nations Day theme is “Child Health and Survival: The Millennium Development Goals and the Most Vulnerable.” It is thus fitting that the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) is inviting youth and children's leaders to join the UN Family, Non-Governmental Organizations and the International Community to engage in a discussion on the role of youth in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, focusing on health, education and gender issues.
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
It is imperative that the International Community and UN Agencies engage with young people in order to gauge their insights and ideas on issues that are paramount to their, and their country's development.
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding
this Open Forum for youth in the community:
The Forum is hoped to better engage youth and chilren's organizations into the activities hosted by the United Nations, as well as giving youth and children's leaders an opportunity to speak directly with Government Ministers, Heads of UN Agencies and other members of the International Community.
