Name of the Open Forum: ASEAN youth and the MDGs

Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
Raising awareness of the MDGs among ASEAN youth and engaging them to take action for the MDGs.

More focus on the participants:
- Singapore International Foundation-ASEAN Student Fellowship Alumni.
- TakingITGlobal members of South East Asia.

Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
We are now at five years past the Millennium Declaration and one third of the way to our ambitious MDG datelines. However, not many people in the region acknowledge how important the MDGs are and there are even a number of people who have not heard of the MDGs.

It is time for everyone, especially the young to talk more about the MDGs, to act fast and smart to address the needs of the poor and make the MDGs an international success. ASEAN youth should be more aware of their role as an obvious resource to ensure that the MDG progress is made.

Moreover, many participants in this Open Forum come from the ranks of the region's leading young talent and they are already highly motivated youths, it is crucial for them to meet and exchange ideas, to inform and be informed, to inspire and be inspired, to involve and be involved in the regional campaign to achieve 8 MDGs by 2015.

Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
The SIF Alumni and TIG members of South East Asia will benefit:
- A more insightful Awareness of the MDGs.
- Inspirations to add their voice to the global fight against poverty and to campaign around the MDGs in their local community, their country.
- A good network of youth counterparts in the region.
