The Youth Movement for Democracy (YMD) is a global community of youth and allies working non-violently for democracy. It was founded by a group of young people who believe in and work for fair elections, free speech, and human rights. The movement is a meeting space for the free exchange of ideas. It is a network that links like-minded youth with each other, with resources, and with opportunities. It is a community whose members work together and support each other in solidarity
The YMD was founded in 2004, in South Africa, at Third Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy.
From December 13th to 15th, the Movement will host the first Global Youth Conference on Democracy and Political Participation in Santo Andre - Sao Paulo, Brazil. It will enjoy the participation of democracy leaders from Brazil and all parts of the world, including the International Working Group of the YMD, a group of six revered, pro-democracy organizers from six different countries with experience working on issues ranging from journalistic integrity in African countries to free elections in Cambodia.
The conference will include panel discussions, workshops, open-mic performances, and a democracy fair. Participation is free for anyone, though contributions are encouraged. Space is limited and registration is required. For more information go to:
