FUNDING ECOSYSTEM
Fund, fund, and fund! That’s all what we might merely need while doing project in order to come to life, it is inevatably true though. However the source of fund as the project funding is rather limited and not easy to get where one’s consumption hikes and the crisis knock the economy sector in the country.
Since this CBU project based on socially volunteer centered program will be taking over in the slum areas whose social teamwork among the citizens is stronger than in the neighbour city and the case is also becoming the public concerns we are gonna maximize the optimal sources existing either in the local community and respective institution nearby (like in-kind donations) or the support from youth volunteer hence the monetary fund needed will be minimized effectively.
What might be a somewhat high allocation of fund is the budget to build the simple houe so called “Hut”. We will try the best of ability to use the fund we already got based on proportion we’ve made in previous budget allocation. We emphasize the resident and all local people in Bintaro that this Hut could be used for another bussinesss or personal purposes of their community. This multifunction will empower them to make a sustainable platform together hand by hand.
This project will be running for approximately 24 weeks and the extention time ahead. This time-line is quite long that the well prepared fundraising is crucial to keep up all the programs maintained and sustainable. Therefore, we are looking for a corporate who are able to share profit of purchasing the garbage and trash nearby the area to be allocating for the education of local children within the project. In accordance with this way of fundraising, we are also already negotiating to the partner of BIS (british int. school) to have a monthly donation from selling their used stuffs and school waste – trash to the respective corporate. This is where we think the point of fundraising should be focusing on for the sustainability of the project that we hope project will not only run in the period of 6 months-time but also unlimited period of time.
On the whole, we enlist the sources of fund into 2 kind of categories as followings below. There are some points of ecosystem sources we will attain whilst running the sustainable project:
Monetary Income
1. Seed Funding (Starting-up)
Microsoft $ 1000 grant
2. Donation program
3. Personal donations by proposal
4. Fundraising (Coins for children)
Non-Monetary Income
1. In kind Donations
- Learning materials (British Int. School)
- building materials (Bintaro community and BIS)
Such as bricks or usable roofs
- Labour (local people)
many of those are working as building laborer
2. Long term kind
- Publication on Radio and Newspaper
(Sounding the project and all the progress)
This will also help us to gauge the support from outsiders

Project Values
Every project is directly aiming to certain purposes and goals to be achieved. Children behind us (CBU) wish to address the values in community upon the issue that the role of education for children is getting crucial in empowering them, get educated..., to be the social agent towards living in a brighter future. We need to strengthen people’s awareness as the fundamental framework of thinking to which we can tackle the problem, and emerge chidlren’s smartness as results.
Eventually, CBU (together along with volunteers and partners) is honoured to have Microsoft funding, herewith we have accountability to make sure whether or not people could embody and stay sticking on the values of project. That’s why an evaluation and supervision could take huge role in running project.
Followings are among the values and principles in the project :
1) Service
In every social project, the most powerful concern is mostly the service. The way how we treat the project and all the components will determine how far we’ve been doing. Serving the best of our ability in the project.
2) Respect
Living within a diverse situation, in order to prevent dispute, respectfullness should be owned by each stakeholders. The family in the site project might be unexpectably different each other, depending on how their family live. We need people who commit to be able to show respectfull response to others.
3) Dedication
In order to have a strict bond of dedication, committe ought to be a commitment person that is willing to contribute their time, thought, skill, and money as in their respective capability.
4) Equality and fairness
Fairness is a condition in which thing gets its right proportionally. People need to regard lens of equality to create the fairness and dignity of others.
5) Enjoyment/ fun
Enjoyment should always be the part of one’s life. Children while doing learning circumstances need to be served within a fun agendas. They are children whose right should be maintained (i.e. playing games-fun). Thus, their development will also be going and developing expectedly.
6) Optimism
The flame of team’s spirit keep the people focusing on goals targeted. Optimism is one value which is valuable to activities.
7) Improvement
Implementation of Children behind us will be a lot facing myriad of opportunities to do improvement where it hasnt been thought by the team’s members beforehand. Herewith, the programs will lead to a better sustainable development.
8) Evaluation
To measure the progress onto the result we have made, reflection and some indicators of success should be put. It’s important to take lessons from the previous activities that leave flaws ,and then improve part that goes as it is expected better.

Execution
SMART goals Should Meet A Risk Tactic (smart).
While conducting a project, its inevitably obvious that challenges coming along are there as its really part of it. Either Risk or Challenge doesnt mean an end to your work but actually the real start to do your common touch in solving problems. In my Project, i do aware of numerous challenge will be foreseen. But somehow, believe that there will always be the way for that. The Risk and Challenges i might foresee upon my project of Children behind us are likely to be these followings below :
1.Time Management
As mostly Volunteers will come from the university and high school students, school timing will likely hinder some agendas arranged. This is particularly in due of examination and holidays. Time consumed will be quite much, not only onto the phase of operation but also the preparation period.
Contingency plan : its important to make a list of Job description for each Volunteer specifically and we’ll be having team meeting before ratifing those jobs in order to match wether or not Respective Voulunteers available and willing, so they wont leave or disappear. We’ll be making the team split, for month to month in a rotation in order to make more timely tangible and realistic management.
2.Transportion and Schedule
Project’s site, Bintaro-Jakarta, is quite a long distanced to my place, approximately about 1 hour by car. This challenges is crucial to be highlighted not to injure the flame of spirit of running the project. Schedule should be planned well.
Contingency plan : We’ll create an recruitment of volunteer for the transportation division whose vehicles could contribute to reach the site on time adequately. For the schedule, in the last discussion o BIS (British int.school*partners,close to site) we’ll do it once a week, Volunteers on my side (from Depok) will fillin week 1 and 3 while they handle week 2 and 4.
3.Financial Support
To finance this youth project, sufficiency of all goods and utility along the project should not only come from first come contributor (Microsoft grant), but we need an ongoing donations from several sides and philantropical actions to gather fund to pursue and maintaining prject well.
Contingency plan : we use the website to spread the words and sound on help, support, donations from outsider (corporate, etc.) or do philantropical actions like “Coins for Children” or people to people.
4.Children participation
it’s new in the community’s environment, children may get shocked to follow such new program or the other way around, ehilaration of joining the study. We need a control of system to avoid the action from creeping down.
Contingency plan : based on the result of survey alter on, we will limit some children to be followed in this program (i.e 20) as it grows and developes, we can further adjust the participant within programs efficiently.
The best of ability and endeavours are very prominent component we should have been dedicated to. Commitment will lead us to succeed. A report and evaluation will be here to tackle each single problem we face. Execution is the main core of the project.

Project Scope : Children Behind Us
The project wishes to provide a children edu-center in the slum areas. Thus, the scope of the outcomes will be having a sustainable edu-house in which children could learn, acquire skills they never get, and express ideas and creativity. Secondly, it aims on actuating people’s hearts (esp. Parents) to sent child to school, being aware of the essence of education itself. Third, children will know and practice the healthy daily life gradually and get accostumed to right habits.
We wont make it compulsory for children to join the class, their parents still have authority to let the child follow the program or not. Its not possible to urge the environment be ideal for learning like a clean-well managed condition. But, we do hope through the awareness of education and the manner to run a healthy life for kids this will gradually improve another sector of living in the areas where dirtiness is the part of living.
Preventing the project’s scope from creeping, we will endeavour the goals gradually each week we undergo, and keep focus on the target line and plan mapping we have already constructed. As the youth run project, we think quite important to have a supervisor or sort of advisor that will review our agenda and its progress. Through the well maintained website we can get feedback from more people, no matter who and where they are.

MANDATE : Children Behind Us (CBu)
Purpose :
Cbu (Children Behind us) exist to create health-educational atmosphere for children in the slum areas to aware children and their parents on how essential to get education and pursue it for a better future.
Mission :
We provide a community run platform of education to emerge the awareness mindset of people to give time and opprtunity for children to get their right to education.
Vision :
Children actively know some basic knowledges and freely speak up-open their ideas –be heard and pour the creativity and do those learning tought, in their daily life.
Goals :
1. To make a data upon the paradigm of family in their community about education for children. organising the research
2. To build edu-house as the project centre whose place is adequate to do the learning process
3. To construct a realistic curriculum for children upon the basic knowledge, art, and health lifestyle
4. To gather power of volunteers, funders,partners and other stakeholders in an integrity to make attainable foundation respectively.
5. Last but not least, to sustain the maintanance of project activity continously and be more empowered each day. A need of more supporters esp. Fund supplier and the teacher volunteers

Probem Statement : Children Behind Us
The term “Children Behind Us” as in my project actually means that children who are neglected, who are in need, have to get attention from the people like us. They are our responsibility morally, helping each other hand by hand, getting their spirit back to establish a better live. People need to know the current conditions of those childre, need to realise, and need to take action to help them upon the issue of children’s right.
According to 2007 data from Indonesia National Commission of child protection accumulated from data in 33 provinces, the amount of not attending school children reach 11,7 million. A very amazing number from the 4ht largest population countries, the number may reach more than that total today, due to the global economy crisis and food price hikes triggering more poverty. This statistic clearly shows the low rate of education and its development distribution equality. The repercussions of the problem is illiteracy, bad living in poor areas, disseminating diseases, the rate of crime in the city, and other broader impacts due to problem existed.
There several reasons why this is happening nowadays. First, the poverty are deteriorating in some place of the nation, they arent even affordable to feed the family (33.4 millin people under the line of peoverty in 2009, from BAPPENAS), Secondly, parent sent their children to work, to earn money for living. The survey of National Labour institute (2008) says that there exist 566.526 child labour in Indonesia and ILO-IPEC (2007) data shows 52,47 workers range of age 15- 19. They, mostly in age of 15, are employed due to adequate energy to work with low salary and appeal. In my project site, children are becoming the garbage collector in the slum areas that they have no time for education. Third of all, children desperately have no willing to go to school because their mindset and the parent’s as well regards education as an unimportant thing rather than attaining money for living. The third reason is more likely to be point in which we will intervene. We’ll show and realize them how education for childre directly and indirectly could give positive impacts in hteir living as well as living in good health sanitation. Intervining their value of life, This awareness and help for creating better living system in area is the trend we would like to address.
As the result of project, edu-house as sustainable education foundation, could actuate people nearby to join volunteering in the edu-house so that we can sound and spread the message of education essence for children. We want to see the children get the directed life through education, express their ideas-creativity. Speak up and we’ll in the last see the smiles that make us feel amazing.

It was a couple months ago, when my community and i visited a slum areas in bintaro, Jakarta (capital city of Indonesia) where are very far away of condition in which we live. We found garbages anywhere on evercorner of the area of people house, messy housing pattern and a severe sanitation, and pathetic environment. Imagine this calamity happen in Jakarta where people next to this slum areas live in a high standar of living, high storeyed residence building and very wealthy condition, indulged by luxuriance. How could we not aware and care?
Our hearts are actuated to do something for them even relatively small things, but mean a lot worthed and priceless to them who r in need . Once an idea come up to mind to have the education realisation and touch their environment. They need to be aware about how important education is impacting the life of somebody. Till having a discussion, we want to propose a project entitled CHILDREN BEHIND US.
SPROUT IDEA
CHILDREN BEHIND US is a community-centered project that aims to provide a foundation in education and sanitation for the children in the urban slum areas continuously. Our goal is to provide basic literacy skills and sanitation to these children . So, firstly we build the simple Edu-house in the slum area in order to make it accessable by those children. We teach the children ,at the same time, aware and inspire the people arround them (esp. parents) about the utmost importance of education through a comprehensively fun learning base.
Showing edu-awareness, teaching basic math, reading and writing, healthy life and giving nutritious snack are likely among things we will foster . Secondly, providing a project website, children will be encouraged to promote their ideas freely towards better future and creativities made by their hands . Further, We also expect to inspire other people to initiate similar projects in their community upon “the education for All” in the hopes that we could spread the benefit and create a global partnership for education.
Consideration : One more thing beforehand, throughout surveys, socialisation to attain the goal and get people aware. We will try to involve and engange the people (mainly parents) in the areas to know how essential education, n how crucial living in healthy life.
