This event is part of a another event, World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

The Western Asia Preparatory Conference for WSIS is hosted by the Lebanese Government, represented by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, in close collaboration with ESCWA, UNESCO Cairo Office and ITU. The World Bank InfoDev Programme and the UN ICT Task Force have also extended their cooperation and support for the Conference.

The conference aims at developing a common vision and understanding of the information society for the ESCWA/Arab region while producing a document representing the regional input for the second meeting of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom2) scheduled for 17-28 February 2003.

A preliminary information note and a tentative agenda for the Conference can be downloaded and are available in either Arabic or English.
