DetailsAbout
By bringing together under the same roof government representatives, industry leaders, operators, investors, regulators, technical specialists and other key players in telecommunications to the Africa 2001 Forum, it seeks to ensure a cross-fertilization of ideas at the highest level as well as being a catalyst for pragmatic action. The Forum will be used to debate, discuss, analyze, share and define what is possible and what must be done in real terms to expand the African Renaissance.

Participants in the Youth Forum will visit the Africa 2001 Exhibition (Midrand, Johannesburg, 12-16 November 2001) and will participate in the Forum sessions of their choice, either at the Policy & Development Summit or at the Infrastructure & Applications Summit. Four sessions will be specifically devoted to the Youth Forum, with the following three basic themes:

* Technology
* Regulation
* Finance

Specific subjects will include: the basics of technologies and their possible uses; the relationships between policy/regulation and market structure in African countries and elsewhere; the fundamentals of building a dynamic communications environment; the relationships between policy, regulation and the business world; how business is related to the world of communications; applications and business concepts entering and evolving in Africa.

If you wish to be a speaker at the Youth Forum on one of the above mentioned topics, please send your abstract and copy of your short biography to Ms Sunny Bekele

ITU will initiate a Fellowship Programme to fund one young woman and one young man of university age from each of its Member States in Africa to attend the AFRICA 2001 event, within the scope of its ongoing commitment to fellowship programmes. The candidates will be selected on the basis of a competition, which aims to broaden the talent pool of future leaders in the Information and Communication Technology sector. For each candidate, travel, accommodation and subsistence costs will be borne by ITU. The Fellowship Programme will assist approximately 104 fellows from Africa.
